Don’t bottle it up

If you are really struggling financially from one month to the next, tell someone about the problem. Although it will not immediately help the problem, it will offer some relief that you aren’t bearing the burden alone. It may also help as who ever you tell will see the problem from a different perspective. They may then come up with a temporary solution that you could not see. Be aware that borrowing money from friends or family can cause problems in the future, make sure both parties are clear about the agreement and repayments.

Use savings if you have them
If you do have savings it is important to use them now you are struggling. Even if you were saving for something, you are much better off using savings to cover yourself. Using your own funds as appose to borrowing further money makes more financial sense than having to cover additional interest. Once you are then ok financially you can set about replenishing the savings fund.

Increase your overdraft
If you are only struggling by a small amount each month, it might be in your best interests to try and increase your overdraft. Although this usually involves additional fees, they will be less than any additional charges for having an unauthorised overdraft. These additional funds can really help during financial difficulties. Remember this is only a temporary solution and it is important to try and keep out of the additional overdraft the following month.

Use a loan as a final resort

Try to steer clear of using payday loans or credit cards to get you through the month. These should only be used if you have exhausted all other options. By borrowing additional money you will have extra interest to pay and this method usually ends up costing a lot more. It also makes the problem worse in the long term and undoes all the hard work you have already done. If you do need to do this try and get the most competitive interest rates and aim to pay the balance back as soon as possible.
